Blu Ernest is a songwriter and producer, based in Brighton, UK, who writes gritty R&B music with elements of contemporary hip-hop and late-night indie. His self-produced sound has been described as a 'melancholy-striptease', mixing his gloomy vocals over a silky yet somber production. 'Dodged A Bullet' stumbles between the tongue-in-cheek bitterness of seeing an Ex at the bar, and the intoxicating sigh-of-relief that you're not with them anymore. The song starts off as a drunken-flex, but slowly matures into a sobering realisation that brings with it an unexpected catharsis from across the bar.
