L. Teez Releases Video for Dat Jazz The Jazz/Hip-hop sensation revealed on XXX The name is about to spread! L. Teez, a singer-songwriter from Montreal, drops the video for Dat Jazz today; a track blends two of the artist's favourite urban styles. L. Teez says: "Some of the track's lyrics touch upon social issues, but my main goal was to bring a hip hop flow to a jazz-like rhythm." Dat Jazz is the result of that fusion as well as the product of his collaboration with producer Hugh Signori, author of the track's samples and instrumentals. The video plunges us into the deep night of the city, an ambiance that connoisseurs will surely be familiar with: "The musical textures of Dat Jazz were, for me, synesthetically reminiscent of the graphics and the colours of the New York Reality Check 101 album sleeve, by DJ Premier. I was also influenced by Jazzmatazz by Guru, for the musical style. Interestingly, the cover of that album featured the same colour schemes. For the video, I wanted to capture that same urban, nocturnal ambiance, this warm and highly-saturated colour scheme that we found downtown or in the basements of the Belmont," explains director Guillaume Pascale. Following Dat Jazz, L. Teez will be releasing his debut EP on Musjo Music. Something to stay tuned for! About L.Teez: At 22 years of age, L. Teez has already made a name for himself in city's underground clubs, a reputation he's cultivated with a contagious, incomparable zeal. This poetic and committed composer makes a point of marrying his lyrics to a rich and thoughtful instrumentality. He took his first musical steps at school with the trombone and the trumpet, leaving off from that tradition and committing himself to vocals, more specifically rap, at the age of 16. L. Teez relies on this rich musical background to express his artistic vision and create his identity. In 2012, during the rise of Newschool hip-hop, L. Teez threw himself into his writing, composing genuine, intimate, works that spoke to his worldview, his surroundings and his experiences. His moment of truth came during the MEG Festival when he shared the stage most notably with Afrikana Soul Sister and the producer Guts, and then toured several cities in France.
