Alex Rocks is about to drop the digital single of 'Ultimatum'. Taken from his debut album Rise N Shine, also on Lovemonk, and featuring the vocals and rhymes of Nebraska rapper Sleep Sinatra, 'Ultimatum' is a perfect example of Alex Rocks' celebration of golden age hip-hop: dope beats, laid-back keys and a jazzy vibe. On the flip, brand new track 'Not A Love Song' is a Pharcyde-esque jazzed-up affair with tough beats and Texas based King Steez and SpaceGhostJay rapping, vocalising and adding soul to the stew. Background info Alex Rocks, nom-de-guerre of Alejandro Melero, is a beatmaker born and bred in Madrid, Spain. Caught by the hip-hop virus in the late eighties and early nineties, his crate digging, beat juggling and scratching led to Alex crafting his own beats, and collaborating with a string of MCs and singers from around the world. His sound is a celebration of golden age hip-hop and was brought to recent attention through the release of his debut album Rise N Shine in 2017. Besides beatmaking, Alex Rocks is currently keeping himself busy with his jazz-funk live band, the Spain Diggin' video series documenting the country's vinyl collectors scene, and deejaying in clubs and on Madrid based radio Gladys Palmera.
