Actress and singer Susie Vanner has enlisted Soft Cell's Dave Ball to remix her stunning version of Tainted Love, originally a Northern Soul hit for Gloria Jones in the 60's. The track bares great resonance for Susie, who had several hits in the Northern Soul scene herself. The remix takes the synth-pop of Soft Cell's Number 1 hit cover of the track, and mixes Susie's original, chic and stylish arrangement with Grammy Award-winning producer Kipper Eldridge. The result is an elegant cover, accentuated by a voice that sings from the core, and poignantly for Susie keeps one foot in the past and one very much in the future. Before becoming an internationally recognised actress in the 70s with her role in the James Bond classic The Spy Who Loved Me alongside Roger Moore, Vanner signed a record deal with RCA at the age of 19 (under the name Sue Lynne), recording a handful of singles that became Northern Soul standards, including the hit Don't Pity Me. Vinyl copies of her singles still sell for hundreds of pounds to this day. Dave Ball of Soft Cell said: ' I really enjoyed working on this mix, I remember Susie from her youth and now the Northern Soul theme has come full circle with her new version of Tainted Love'. It is equal parts serendipitous and an interesting stroke of fate that Susie has gone full circle, leading to a reset moment where she will now re-establish her singing career - incredibly releasing her debut album all these years later. 'In These Shoes' will be released on 11th September.
