This sophomore single release from Sydney's CSOKE doubles down on melody and attitude. Set to drop on 26 June, 'Priority' is a strong follow up from the fresh new pop songstress. Ostensibly describing the familiar frustrations of a relationship, CSOKE penned 'Priority' as a response to everyone who has ever told someone what they think they want to hear - rather than the truth. Inspired by the barrage of miscommunication, fronting and pure insult that comes out of dating apps, 'Priority' addresses a need to take care of number one. Deceptively delicate; ethereal melodies provide a seductive backdrop to CSOKE's no nonsense, sometimes scathing lyrics. Building to an anthemic chorus - that is destined for empowered women everywhere - capturing the same energy that compelled us to sing God is a woman in the shower in times of need. 'Priority' is a beautiful crafted song, right down to a brief interlude of loungy, caramel toned guitar, melting into a final chorus of "my priority is not you, it is me". For CSOKE the song also captures an empowering undercurrent in a number of broader themes. The incredible liberation happening throughout gender, identity, youth and sexuality, is happening despite (or perhaps because of) a feeling that no one is listening to us. Self-empowerment is the calling card of youth culture today, and putting yourself first is no longer an act of selfishness.
