DIFFERENT DEFINITIONS OF LOVE: PART 1 is a collection of catchy R&B songs with so much warmth and comfort in her vocals, you'd be forgiven for missing the personal themes and moving stories that stretch and explore the depths of KALI's musical creativity - from her soulful styling on "Less Than Perfect" to her high energy on "Attention", showcasing a new versatility and clear artistic vision as she flows through R&B sub-genres. Here KALI dives into stories behind her collections of songs, track-by-track. "Get It" "Inspired by the lust side of love. It's like when you see someone and you're just like "ooh he can get it." It starts the EP off in a fun and playful way and is actually a personal favourite, just because it put me out of my comfort zone when I was writing it. I wanted to deliver the lyrics in a way that was more naughty and flirtatious than sensual." "So Nice" "When I first heard the track, my immediate instincts were saying "a rapper should be on this" and it challenged me on how I should deliver my vocals. So I decided that I'd sort of sing/rap my lines in the verses and then in the chorus, I could use my vocals more. This song is based on a true love story that happened to me where many people had their doubts because of the unconventional way we met. But we proved them wrong by staying together for as long as we did and ended up finding something real and true." "Less Than Perfect" "I wrote this song when I was hurting in a relationship that was quite toxic for me. I felt like I had an expectation placed on me on how I should be and how I should act and didn't really feel like I could truly a hundred per cent be myself without judgement. It's a song that also helped me see that I know my worth and what I deserve and if another person can't see that, then they aren't the right person for me" "Purple" "Purple is a colour that I used to describe a feeling. A feeling of loneliness, depression, and sadness. I was going through one of the roughest times in my life and fighting through mental battles and this song was almost like a cry for help. It just felt like I was living the same day over and over again and nothing was stopping this cycle. If you're outside and it starts raining and you've got no shelter, you're going to get wet you can't stop the rain from falling so you just have to stand there and wait for it to pass. You've got to embrace it, face it, and take it and that's how you deal with pain. Love can make you feel this way, it's one of the darker sides of it." "Attention" "This track expresses the craving of attention from a love interest. While writing the song, I found myself thinking of many things like how good it feels when I have someone's attention, especially from a special one."
