Since their formation in 2002, multi-genre UK trio Foreign Beggars' unique trajectory has seen them evolve from underground hip hop heroes to a trailblazing electronic crossover act. Having already announced they are to part ways at the end of this year, they are set to drop their final album, acting as a parting gift to their loyal fan base and marking the end of an incredible 18 year run.
On 13th December they release 'Matriarchy' (both digitally and on vinyl) - a twelve track album produced by Seemore Beats which sees the collective revisit a more hip hop-driven sound, harking back to the sounds and inspiration of their early days. This nostalgic mix of alternative street anthems, boasts bars which truly celebrate UK street culture whilst delivering impeccable forward looking electronic productions that they are already famed for. On the mic they're joined by a host of featured artists including; Maverick Sabre, Blak Twang, Jammer, Flowdan, Greentea Peng and Liam Bailey.
Having always embraced their own different musical influences and backgrounds, it's this unique approach which helped set them apart from their contemporaries. It hasn't always been easy working this way but the collaboration of these separate energies and vision is what has made the group what it is. Speaking of the split and forthcoming album, Pav aka Orifice Vulgatron, explains further:
"We simply reached a point where we wanted embrace unbridled exploration of our individual solo journeys and tell our stories as solo artists. Having known Toby and Ed (Seemore Beats) for nearly 25 years now, we've always crossed paths musically and their production really touched something in me that opened the floodgates for some real heart on the sleeve expression."
"It also felt important and natural to express the messages and experiences on the type of hip hop beats that propelled us into existence and are truly representation of our era of music. When we started the album it hadn't intended to be the last album but that's the way things transpired so it added more emotional gravity to the creative process."
During their critically acclaimed career, the trio (Orifice Vulgatron, Dag Nabbit and DJ Nonames) have built a reputation as one of the UK's most versatile, creative and prolific acts - with a Top Ten Hit, over 80 million YouTube plays and a string of international headline dates to their name.
They have released six studio albums to date, with their last being 2018's '2 2 KARMA Deluxe' which featured collabs with Rag'n'Bone Man, Kate Tempest, OG Maco, Kojey Radical, Flux Pavilion, Alix Perez and lots more. The record was championed by Billboard, Mixmag, Fact and DJ Mag with radio support from DJ Target, Mistajam, Annie Nightingale, Tom Ravenscroft and Julie Adenuga. Highlights on the road include sets at Glastonbury, Exit, Outlook, iTunes Festival, Field Day, SW4, Lovebox, headline shows at O2 Brixton Academy and so much more.
As Foreign Beggars look to wrap up the year in style, they look forward to new projects whilst looking back with this contemplative and nostalgia driven album.
