Barney Artist hails from Forest Gate in East London; his name deriving from his desire to "paint sounds", which he sets about by fusing elements of jazz and hip-hop, with a nod to his grime roots, coupled with social commentary and conscious rap. His music, described as "fluid hip-hop that flows like the tide and hits the mind with a river of thoughts", has received plaudits from the likes of Huw Stephens as well as support from publications such as Hypetrak, EARMILK and Hunger Magazine. His debut EP 'Bespoke' charted at #8 in the iTunes Hip-Hop chart. Lead track 'Space' featuring Tom Misch was subsequently playlisted on French radio Prun, whilst 'Lonely Place' was featured on Mercedes Benz' end of year compilation.
