Born Sheila Matomela, Shailla Matt grew up in Port Elizabeth in a small town called Kwazwakhele in South Africa living with her mother and her grandmother in Port Elizabeth and later moved to Johannesburg with her parents. The music bug bit her at a fairly early age and led her to join her local church choir. She's always been a star, always had a calling for music, she schooled in Kagiso high school and was always the top student in her class. Second best was never an option for Shailla. Her debut album 'Ndawela' is consistent of soulful melodies, she sings in isiXhosa, isiZulu and English. She defines Afro Soul in her own terms, by subsuming RnB elements and some traces of Neo-Soul together with southern African Jazz elements. She has also incorporated western African vibes on her music as well by involving a Nigerian song writer. Her lyrical content is easy for everyone to relate with vocal harmonies that are smooth-as-silk. Shailla Matt, has proven to be a mulch-talented young woman in more aspects than expected in this project, being actively involved in the pre and post production as well. With her voice, charm and charisma not even the sky can be the limit for this endearing mother of two. Her graceful yet felt stage presence leaves crowds yearning and hankering for more.
