The DiggMackjoffatt
Hip-hop artist Mackjoffatt's released first album The Digg puts Montreal on the "hip-hop
world map", offering an original content that goes beyond the traditional hip-hop scene to a
wider audience. Flowing with an inventive and catchy musicality, the opus contains 10
tracks and for the most part is played by some of Montreal's best musicians (Ariane Moffatt,
Simon Angell, Kevin Warren, Alexis Dumais). With influences from Beck, Bran Van 3000,
The Roots to Anderson Paak, Mackjoffatt is more than a few beats, two turntables and a
microphone. His music consists of effective tunes with pop structures and catchy melodies
surrounded by a rich musical realm that is sometimes blissful, sometimes more dynamic or
colorful.
Charismatic and committed independent artist Mackjoffatt delivers with this first solo
album an innovative music with positive lyrics that can bring a glimmer of hope to the
complex reality of young adults today. His off the beaten track approach is balm on the
wounds of traditional hip-hop. It is a beautiful example of what is authenticity in a field
where superficiality and triviality too often overshadow research, patience and depth.
