Kara Walker Variation 32Douglas Pagan
Douglas Pagan: Poet, multi-instrumentalist, DJ and bandleader, Douglas Pagan has fronted numerous live avant-garde jazz/electronic projects. The "Kara Walker" EP represents his next step into production, but he brings years of experience, and previous releases as Afrocubist, to the table. Pagan played all the instruments (keyboards, guitar and bass) on these tracks and is responsible for all electronic programming and production. Pagan's music takes in influences from Art Ensemble of Chicago and Sun Ra, to Herbie Hancock and Bugz In The Attic. Pagan has a dozen new tracks completed so expect a flurry of new releases from this extremely talented San Franciscan in 2005. Side A. "Kara Walker Variation 32" features expert soloing on vintage synths and heavy, ultra compressed live bass–broken beat meets free jazz! "Scent of Rockstar" features Pagan's Sonny Sharrock-style guitar licks and a jittery Bambaataa–meets–West London rhythm. Side B: Dominic "Domu" Stanton (a.k.a. Umod, Rima, Yotoko, Sonar Circle) is a veteran leader of the London broken beat and future jazz scenes. His signature sound features intricate fusion keyboard arrangements and punchy drum programming.
