In The Bleak MidwinterConor Albert, Alice Auer
Conor Albert and Alice Auer first met in 2019 after Alice reached out to Conor on Instagram. They quickly established a creative partnership as well as a firm friendship, bonding over a love of both classic jazz and contemporary beat-driven music. The subsequent collaborative 'Smile EP' received widespread acclaim from across the board, including multiple Spotify New Music Fridays and placements on tastemaker playlists such as Our Generation and Jazz UK. The EP has since been streamed 2.5 million times since its release on Young Poet in March 2021. Elsewhere Conor and Alice received coverage at BBC Radio 1 (Jack Saunders, Sian Eleri) and BBC Radio 2 (Jamie Cullum) with online press coverage including The Line of Best Fit and CLASH. Justin Bieber even posted Conor and Alice's cover of 'Crazy He Calls Me' into his Instagram Stories. With both artists enjoying rapidly evolving solo careers, they still found time to reunite in Autumn 2021 to record Christmas offering 'In The Bleak Midwinter', a cover of the traditional Christmas carol. Featuring Alice's effortless and intimate vocal alongside Conor's jazz piano work, minimalist beat and walking bassline, this version of the seasonal classic evokes cold winter evenings by the fireside whilst reminding us the compelling nature of Conor Albert & Alice Auer's musical partnership.
