Release of the week
AguaceroAgua Negra, Cousin Feo, Carlos Guerra, Omar Falcon
November 1st, 2019 | 7 years after the release of their critically-acclaimed self-titled debut, Agua Negra are back with their second full-length album, Aguacero. Organic hip-hop drenched in bolero, cumbia, Latin soul and funk, the 14 tracks on Aguacero (downpour) are a reflection of the pair's rich ancestral heritage coming together to form a modern, multicultural urban experience. The first single, "Norte a Sur", featuring Chilean rap legend Chystemc has already accumulated more than 650,000 views on YouTube. Lately, they performed in some of the most prestigious festivals, such as the Montreal International Jazz Fest and Les Francofolies plus touring in Mexico and Chile, finding an audience clamouring for Agua Negra's signature sound. Agua Negra is a duo comprised of Chilean rapper/producer Cotola and Hondureño-Colombian singer/rapper Paranoize. Their sound is the product of warm, melancholic melodies over raw, heavy productions, synthesizing samples as well as live instrumentation from musicians in Montreal's fertile jazz and soul music scene, emphasizing a moodier approach to live hip-hop. Cotola and Paranoize share mic time on the new album, an ode to the boleros of yore and rap music the way inner-city latinos remember it, as well as a glimpse into the future, fusing two vastly different legacies into a singular vision. Through their work, Agua Negra have helped to push Montreal's unique trilingual Latin hip-hop movement forward all while maintaining a strong connection to the roots of hip-hop as a voice for justice and street knowledge. Aguacero will be available on all digital platforms as well as limited-edition CD and Vinyl LP.
